AEM EV Combined Charging Unit (CCU)

The AEM EV Combined Charger Unit (CCU) combines both an on-board charger (OBC) and a direct current converter (DCDC).

The PSU charges the high-voltage battery by receiving 120 or 240 V AC power from the mains, converting it to high voltage DC, and charging the high-voltage battery in the vehicle. The DC-DC converter takes the high voltage from the battery and converts it to a low voltage to maintain the charge of the car's 12-volt battery. The DC-DC converter performs the functions of an alternator in a vehicle with an internal combustion engine. The CCU is fully controlled by the VCU via the CAN bus, and the OBC and DC-DC transmit voltage, current and status information back to the VCU.

The combination of OBC and DC-DC converter functions in one module simplifies the electric vehicle drive system. The AEM EV CCU is very compact and lightweight, while offering high efficiency, stable charging, long service life, high protection and high reliability. The AEM CCU is 100% controlled via CAN from the VCU in combination with the BMS-18, and is not directly controlled by the charging plug connector or EVSE (electric vehicle service equipment) removed from the vehicle.
